What to do on a Cold Winter Day?

winter

I live in North Texas, so we don’t get much of a Winter. This is a good thing since most of us can’t handle much of a Winter! After endless Summer days over 100 degrees, we can hardly stand more than a week of freezing weather. So, this has been our week for it. Here I am living in this tiny apartment, with one ice day after the next. Since we don’t get much winter weather, our news teams live for the ice storms. So, they spent all weekend scaring us about “upcoming storms,” which never amounted to anything, and then totally missed the real ice storm which is keeping us home today. Go figure!

Anyhow, since we thought we would be iced in all weekend, we rented something for everyone in the family!

  • For our little guy (Terror Tot!): How to Eat Fried Worms: It’s as gross as it sounds, but he seemed to enjoy it.
  • For our daughter (Her Highness!): Little House on the Prairie: It’s the Disney mini series version. It filled over four hours of our weekend, but the entire family really enjoyed this one. It focused on the early years for Charles Ingalls and his family when they moved from Wisconsin to the Kansas Prairie. It was rated G of course, but there was lots of drama that made it entertaining for everyone and it was  educational for the kids too!
  • For Mom and Dad: Thank You for Smoking: It was good, but I had heard so much about it I guess I was expecting better. Aaron Eckhart is really great and it was interesting to watch him use his PR skills to promote the tabacco industry and smoking. What a spin doctor! He might be “award worthy” but probably not the overall film. Great cast though: William H. Macy, Robert DuVall, Rob Lowe, Adam Brody and Katie Holmes. It was my first time to see Katie Holmes in a more grown-up role (I used to watch her on Dawson’s Creek!) and it was strange. She just has that youthful look about her.

So, it was a video filled weekend for us. I definetly recommend you check out Little House, especially if you have school-aged girls! They will love it and my son loved the Indians!
