Some Parenting Tips as the School Year Comes to a Close

Regardless of where you live or where your kids go to school, there’s one thing all of us Moms have in common, the school year will end and the kids will be home for the summer. . .aaah!

So, I thought we could all use a quick refresher on effective parenting. It’s worth your time to read the entire article from KidsHealth, but here’s are the Nine Steps to More Effective Parenting.

  1. Nurture your child’s self-esteem.
  2. Catch your child being good.
  3. Set limits and be consistent with your discipline.
  4. Make time for your children.
  5. Be a good role model.
  6. Make communication a priority.
  7. Be flexible and willing to adjust your parenting style.
  8. Show that your love is unconditional.
  9. Be aware of your own needs and limitations as a parent.

Of course children always love getting some uninterrupted “mommy” time and afterwards they are usually more patient with us when we run off to fold that load of laundry. I personally think they saved the best for last. Number 9 is really what SharpMom is all about. “Focusing on your needs does not make you selfish. It simply means you care about your own well-being, which is another important value to model for your children.” A happy woman is a happy Mom.
