Small Spaces are Easier to Decorate

We took some of our furniture with us to our apartment and I’m finding that small spaces are easier to decorate. For instance, our couch was looking kind of shabby in our old living room. At the apartment, I hardly notice its imperfections.

The lesson here? Consider room size and ceiling height when buying furniture. Got a large room with high ceilings? Your couch and chairs need to be wide and deep with tall backs. You need tall lamps and large artwork or collections of artwork. Dark colored paint can also cozy up a room where as light paint colors will make a small room appear larger. Going into an apartment like I did? Bring or buy smaller pieces of furniture. Our amoire couldn’t make the turn at the top of the steps in the apartment, so it went into storage. Large tables, tall beds, etc. will just make an already small apartment feel even more cluttered.

We’ve also decided it’s much easier to decorate a small Christmas tree! Our new tree looks great and it took about an hour. I usually spend half a day on my Christmas tree! Life will be simple for a while!
