Record Life’s Precious Moments (Motherhood & The Art of Organization, Part IV)
Â
This is the fourth and final post in the Motherhood & The Art of Organization series. Last week, we focused on The Best Laid Plans Often Go Astray. Now that we all understand the importance of flexibility in our daily agenda, let’s talk about how to take time and record and organize all the wonderful memories we make with our families each day.
By this point, you know I’m all about organization. But, we have to make sure we are still taking time to stop and smell the roses. We still need to operate like families, not robots. We live in a hectic, fast paced society. We don’t want to become so list and schedule driven that life just passes us by.
Here’s how to make sure you Record Life’s Precious Moments:
- Get a journal: They come in many forms: everything from the traditional diary, the baby book, the trendy journal or even just a spiral. The important thing here is that you record some memories on paper. You think you’ll never forgot the way your little one asked for “more nilk pease“or the day he first said his ABCs, but the fact is, you will! So, write it down. A great way to do this is to take 10 minutes each night before you go to sleep and jot down some notes. If everyday is completely out of the question, then maybe try for once a week.
- Carry a camera: Again, the options are endless: cell phone camera, digital camera or full-blown video camera. Just make sure to have it with you. The cutest moments are always candid and unplanned. Now, here’s the hard part: get your pictures developed and find a way to keep them organized. Which leads to. . .
- Make a scrapbook: This can be the fancy kind (you know they have entire stores for this stuff), the traditional photo album that you just stick photos into or maybe even an online photo album. Just make sure they are organized by date and event in some format that will stand the test of time. Personally, I’m not a scrapbooker, but I do try to print my pictures and file them into photo albums at least every 6 months.
Setting aside time to Record Life’s Precious Moments might be tough at first, until it becomes a habit, but this is the fun stuff. And, this is really what’s going to matter 20 years from now. Your children and your children’s children will enjoy looking at scrapbooks, watching videos and reading baby journals for years to come!
