Dream Girls

I’ve seen more movies in the past two weeks than I’ve seen all year! I love seeing movies at the holidays. I think it’s the best time of year with the best selection of great films to see.

Last week, as you’ll recall, I took the kids to see Charlotte’s Web, which we all loved. This week, we saw The Good Shepard, Casino Royale and Dream Girls (all without the kids!).

The Good Shepard is a CIA drama. It was really long, depressing and required a lot of concentration. Not exactly everything I look for in a movie. I like Matt Damon and he did a great job. But overall, this was my least favorite of the three. I had really high hopes for an action-packed suspence drama, but it moved at a snail’s pace!

Good thing I then saw Casino Royale, because it was completely action-packed, filled with suspence and drama and keep me on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t sure about Daniel Craig as James Bond, but it really worked. He’s not as traditionally handsome as say Pierce Brosnan, but he definetly had that Bond charisma and confidence. The movie seemed to have less “gadgets” than the typical Bond film, but there were plenty of chases and plot twists that we’ve come to expect from Bond!

Now, for my favorite. . .Dream Girls! I loved this one. I knew the film was about singers, but I didn’t realize it was a musical, so the first time they randomly broke into song in the middle of the street, I was a little caught off guard! So, now you know, Dream Girls is a musical! Beyonce was great and she’s so beautiful. She must have loved all the incredible costumes, wigs and make-up she wore. I love Eddie Murphy and this had to be the role of a lifetime for him. It was really interesting to see him do something other than pure comedy. And, for those of you that follow American Idol, former contestant Jennifer Hudson plays one of the three original “girls.” I understand she competed against thousands of people to land this role. And, wow! What a strong, powerful voice! How can you steal the show from Beyonce, but she nearly does! She was fantastic! I felt like I was listening to Whitney Houston. Great film that you should check out!

What did Rotten Tomatoes say?

So, I have to go because you won’t believe this, but we are taking the kids to see Night at the Museum today! After this one, it’s back to video rentals for us! Plus, we are out of movie theater gift cards!

Watch out for my review of Night at the Museum!
