My Swim Advice: Lessons, Lessons, Lessons
This summer I signed my 3-year-old son up for the 5 day, intensive swimming lessons that guaranteed he’d be able to swim by week end.
I was beyond skeptical because he didn’t even want to be held in the pool a month ago. He cried through the entire week of lessons and I was always just one step away from pulling him out of the water and taking him home.
But, I didn’t and somehow he and his instructor pulled it off. She was so patient with him and never showed a “reaction” to his pleas to get out of the pool. This week he’s swimming about six feet and knows how to “monkey walk” to the steps.
It’s a step in the right direction and I recommend researching your area and finding a good instructor for your children. My best advice: be patient and don’t give in too quickly to natural fear. My son was able to overcome his fear and he’s so proud of what he’s accomplished. And most importantly, at least he has a chance of saving himself in the water.
