My Baby Nest Baby Sling
As a new babywearer, I was excited when my friend Katie asked me to test the My Baby Nest baby sling. My four month old and I are still experimenting – trying to find the right carrier for us – so when this soft, cuddly, baby blue sling/wrap arrived, I was anxious to try it out. The Baby Nest is marketed as a cross between a wrap and a pouch – a wrap with no wrapping, if you can imagine that.
It took me longer than I had hoped to get the hang of wearing my baby in this carrier. However, the only carrier I had previously used was a front pack with straps and buckles, which may have added to my problems. The carrier is worn by slipping your shoulders through two loops, sliding baby in, and then hooking a belt type piece around him. I had some difficulty with this process, and by the time I was ready to move, he was fussy. As with any new carrier, practice putting this one on before you have a fussy baby, and you should be fine.
The My Baby Nest carrier can be worn in a variety of positions, making it very versatile. Front, tummy to tummy, and hip carries are all available, along with a nursing carry for breastfeeding mamas. Be aware when purchasing that this is a sized carrier, so you may need to get one for each parent if you are differently built. The soft, stretchy fabric is very comfortable and holds the baby closely and securely – I never had any worries that he might fall out, as I’ve had with other carriers.
My Baby Nest was also very attractive. After checking out the website, I realized that it comes in a variety of colors, including both masculine, feminine, and unisex options. The carrier also comes with a matching pouch for storage – very handy after it is no longer in use or when traveling. The carrier was well made, and the fabric reminded me of my favorite old t-shirt – soft and stretchy. This helped it to easily accommodate my movements, as well as my baby’s.
One caveat – if you are in the habit of walking your baby to sleep and then removing the carrier and sleeping baby, there is no easy way to do this with this carrier. I found it extremely useful for outings, grocery store trips, etc., but not for evening soothing walks. A sling, pouch, or front pack might be better for this purpose. For this reason, I would not suggest this be your only babywearing purchase.
Overall, My Baby Nest is a comfortable, baby sling that’s well worth the price. I enjoyed testing it, and will be using it in the future. I especially enjoyed the functionality and versatility of the carrier, as well as the easy to wash and wear cotton fabric. I’ll certainly be buying a few of these for shower gifts in the future!
