Even SharpMoms are Not Perfect
We are not perfect, but that’s okay, maybe even good according to an article in the July Parents magazine entitled, “Good Things Kids Learn From Your Bad Habits.”
The article says that our “not-so-shining moments (as parents) teach kids valuable lessons.” Of course, there’s a line that can’t be crossed. Your kids catching you swearing is a little different than swearing at your kids!
Here are some examples from the article:
- Losing your temper: An occasional and sometimes deserved outburst is okay, but screaming at your kids and calling them lazy because they won’t help you in the kitchen isn’t okay!
- Bad-mouthing someone: It’s okay to express feelings, just consider how you do it. Constantly labeling people will encourage your kids to do the same.
Read the article for more information on handling little white lies, breaking a promise and so on. The link to the article will be available online after July 7th. In the meantime, check out page 40 of the July issue of Parents.
