Don’t Give Up On Home Ownership

house.jpgIn talking to a friend who’s a realtor, she told me that the number of first time home buyers she’s working with had gone done dramatically in the past year or so.  According to her, people are hesitant to take the plunge into home ownership in such a tentative economy.  And, with their everyday expenses getting more expensive, they don’t have the available cash to make a 20% down payment on a mortgage.

I don’t think many people know about it, but there are states agencies and grants that can help with down payment assistance. I didn’t know about it when we bought our first home and I sure wish we had. The hardest part of the entire process was coming up with the down payment and if we had been eligible for a grant, it would have it a lot easier.

So for any of you considering first time home ownership, here’s my advice.  Don’t give up just because of the economy.  Do your research and try to find ways that you can afford it. Utilize your state and county agencies - that’s their job.  Remember, it benefits the government if you own a home by the property taxes you pay.  You may be suprised at how much help they can actually give you.
