Do What You Are (Book Review)
Are you dissatisfied with your current career? Are you interested in going back to work, but unsure what you want to do? Well, maybe you should Do What You Are.
Over the weekend, I read a great book that was given to me called Do What You Are, by Paul D. Tieger and Barbara Barron. It claims that it will enable you to, “discover the perfect career for you through the secrets of personality type.”
The book starts off by explaining the four dimensions of personality type:
- Extraversion vs. Introversion
- Sensing vs. Intuition
- Thinking vs. Feeling
- Judging vs. Perceiving
You read through several pages that explain each of these in detail and you make note of which ones suit you best. Ultimately, you end up with a four letter code (there are 16 possible combinations) that defines your personality. Then you can read all about yourself. How you work with others, how you handle conflict, how you are motivated and ultimately, the best suited careers for your personality. My husband and I both worked through the exercises to determine our “personality category” and then we just laughed when we read about ourselves, because it was so true!
If you are a manager of people, this would be a great way to get to know your team better and to understand how to motivate and work with different types of people.
It was a lot of fun and will help you understand yourself better!
