Dining at Disney (Tip of the Week)

As part of our Disney World trip package, we purchased their relatively new dining plan. When traveling with children, I think there’s nothing better than paying for everything, including all your meals, in advance.

You can only purchase the dining plan through a Disney Magic Your Way Package.

The Dining Plan includes the following, per person for each night of your stay:

  • 1 Table Service Meal: appetizer, main course, dessert and a nonalcoholic drink
  • 1 Quick Service Meal: main course (sandwich, dinner salad, pizza, etc.) or combo meal, dessert and nonalcoholic drink
  • 1 Snack: ice cream bars, popcorn, soft drink, piece of fruit, bag of chips, etc.

Over 100 restaurants are available on the plan. Some special character meals will count as two full service meals per person. And, here’s the best part. For guests 10 and up, the price breaks down to $38 per day and for guests ages 3 to 9, $11 per day, tax and tip included. Children younger than age 3 eat free. Now, I haven’t been to Disney since I was in college, but from what I recall, a hamburger lunch could easily cost $10 or more. I think this dining plan is a really great deal. Hopefully, I’ll still think so after our trip!

A couple of my friends have used the plan in the past year and they said they had trouble actually using up all of their allocated meals and that they often had to turn down the included desserts. Hmm, not sure I see my family passing up on any free desserts, but we’ll see!
