Beachside Book Review #5
I discovered a new author, Sophie Kinsella, and just finished her book, Confessions of a Shopaholic. It’s been out for a couple of years, so you may have read it, but I was really glad to “discover” it.
The book was really funny and there is a series of four “shopaholic” books that all feature the same main character, Rebecca Bloomwood. I read somewhere that Rebecca is “every responsible woman’s worst nightmare,” and it’s so true, yet so hilarious!
As you’ve guessed, Rebecca is addicted to shopping and though she has a decent job, it doesn’t pay nearly enough to keep up with her addiction. But, you can’t help but root for Rebecca as she struggles to cut back, make more money and avoid letters and calls from the bank, the credit card companies, etc.
It’s a really fun read. I know I always say that, but I put a lot of effort into selecting my books, because there is nothing worse than struggling through a not-so-good book.
I’ve already purchased Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, the second book in the series. Stay tuned for a review on that one.
Please let us know if you’ve read other books by Sophie Kinsella. I’m curious to hear about them.
