Academy Award Nominations Announced

Early this morning the Oscar nominees were announced. The live program will air on February 25th. My personal “best picture” of the year, Dreamgirls, picked up eight nominations, but unfortunately not one for best picture.
Here are the Best Picture nominations:
Best Picture
- Babel
- The Departed
- Letters from Iwo Jima
- Little Miss Sunshine
- The Queen
I’ve only seen Little Miss Sunshine, so it’s really hard for me to give an opinion here. I’m hoping to catch The Queen sometime in the next couple of weeks.
But, I think the real category to watch will be the Actor/Actress in a supporting role categories. Here are the nominations:
Actor in a Supporting Role
- Alan Arkin: Little Miss Sunshine
- Jackie Earle Haley: Little Children
- Djimon Hounsou: Blood Diamond
- Eddie Murphy: Dreamgirls
- Mark Wahlberg: The Departed
Actress in a Supporting Role
- Adriana Barraza: Babel
- Cate Blanchett: Notes on a Scandal
- Abigail Breslin: Little Miss Sunshine
- Jennifer Hudson: Dreamgirls
- Rinko Kikuchi: Babel
This could go Dreamgirls all the way, and I think that would be amazing. What a story it would be for Jennifer Hudson (former American Idol contestant). I bet she won’t sleep for the next month! And, Eddie Murphy was so great in this film. I’d love to see a true comedic actor bring home an Oscar. Eddie proved he was much more than a “funny guy” in this role.
You know where I’ll be on February 25th. And, the anticipation may be over quickly for me, because I think the supporting role awards come up pretty early in the show. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Dreamgirls, how about you?
