It’s a “World of Good”
May 3, 2007
I just became aware of an organization called World of Good. They create opportunities for artisan cooperatives from around the world by providing them access to fair trade so they can share their work with consumers in the U.S.
You can check out their merchandise online and purchase beautiful, handmade items from around the globe such as jewelry, bags, scarves, house wares, etc. Might be worth checking into for Mother’s Day gifts or end of year teacher gifts.
Last year World of Good did a “world of good” by selling over 100,000 items crafted by 133 artisan groups in 31 countries and in turn helping the lives of over 2,500 individual artisans and their families. Pretty cool! They sent me the great red bracelet pictured to the right. I wore it the other night and my friends loved it!
The Memory Keeper’s Daughter (Book Review)
May 2, 2007
A while back, I was at Target shopping for a good book and this sweet woman (a fellow shopper) walked up to me and asked if she could give me a recommendation on a book. This has never happened to me before, but I certainly welcomed her input.
She suggested that I read The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards. She told me that it was the best book she’d ever read in her life. And, that every time she sees it at the store she wishes she could buy it and read it again for the first time.
Wow, that was a pretty powerful recommendation. I have books that I feel that way about, so I was very excited to potentially discover something really great.
I’ve been so busy lately it’s hard to find time to read, but finally, this past weekend, I completed The Memory Keeper’s Daughter and I can now officially review it for the SharpMoms! Read more
