How Often Do You Have a Spa Treatment? (Poll Results)

March 12, 2007

Our latest SharpMom.com poll question was all about pampering and taking care of Mommy! We asked the question: How often do you have a spa treatment? (manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, etc.).

Well ladies, we are not spending much time taking care of ourselves! The results showed that 41% replied: Spa treatment?

Here are the responses:

  • At least once a month: 23%
  • Every other month: 18%
  • Twice a year: 18%
  • Spa treatment? 41%

It’s rare for me to have a spa day, but I do try to get a pedicure at least once a month, especially in the Summer. But, mine are usually under $25 each. And, I have about a dozen places within two miles of my home to choose from that offer the “cost-effective” pedicures!

I was researching purchasing a true spa gift card today and was surprised to see that Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas offer about ten pedicure options ranging from $37-$77, wow! The highest priced ones are 50 minutes services. My $25 ones are 30 minutes. I guess you get what you pay for!

So, if you fell into the Spa Treatment? category, check into a “cost-effective” pedicure as a treat to yourself. Mother’s Day is coming up!

Watch out for a new poll coming later this week!

Drink Your Fruits and Veggies (Tip of the Week)

March 8, 2007

smoothieMy family is on a health kick and our number one goal is to eat more fruits and vegetables. We are finding that it’s not an easy change and takes some planning.

Fruits and veggies don’t last for weeks (like granola bars), so we really have to plan what to buy and often make a quick grocery run mid week to replenish. We also discovered that it’s much easier to wash, peel, chop, slice, etc. in advance. Then, when we are hungry for a snack, the fruit is as easy to grab as the crackers.

And, our best tip of all is to drink our fruits and veggies. It’s quick, easy and yummy! Our favorite two examples are tomatoe juice and fruit smoothies.

We’ve been buying low sodium V8. It’s great with lunch or for a mid day snack and it fills you up too. And, now that the weather is getting warmer, we are loving fruit smoothies for breakfast or as a snack anytime of day. They do require a blender, but other than that, they are a snap. My receipe is really easy: 1 cup of low fat vanilla yogurt, one banana, 1/2 cup of ice, 1/2 of orange juice and 1/2 of fruit (fresh or frozen strawberries, blueberries or peaches work great).

So, if you are like us and find it hard to have sides of fruits/veggies with every meal, try drinking a few each day!
