What’s in your make-up bag for under $10?
March 23, 2007
Are the beauty products you can buy at the grocery store as good as the expensive stuff? Let’s find out. Last week I asked my girlfriends to tell me about their favorite beauty products for under $10. Here’s what they said:
Drum roll please… it’s SharpMom’s debut of Ask The Girls!
Girls, what are your favorite beauty products for under $10?
- Burt’s Beeswax Lip Balm: This is great to put on at night before bed. For a tint of color during the day, try the Lip Shimmers.
- Cetaphil Cleansing Bar: As gentle as it gets!
- Cover Girl Lash Exact: Everyone loves mascara! This one has a great brush that really does separate and lengthen the lashes!
- Maybelline Great Lash mascara: The pink and green stuff! It’s always tops every list.
- Oil of Olay Cleansing Cloths: Great to carry along when you travel.
- Ponds Cold Cream: Make-up remover and all-purpose moisturizer.
I have a new favorite product too! I’ve been experimenting with new body lotions because I want to get my skin ready for Summer clothes! One I’m really enjoying is Keri Nourishing Shea Butter Moisture Therapy. The shea butter gives it that extra creamy feeling. It’s a great, everyday lotion because it’s not too heavily scented and it provides just the right about of moisture. It leaves my skin feeling very smooth and silky!

Fireside Book Review Wrap-Up
March 20, 2007
I just realized that today is the first day of Spring! I love the start of Spring, love the cool 70 degree days, love the clothes, love the blooming flowers, but somehow the Fireside Book Reviews just don’t seem right anymore! So, I’m thinking this is a good opportunity to do a Fireside Book Review Wrap-Up.
Here are the books SharpMom read and reviewed over the Winter:
- Piece of Work by Laura Zigman
- The Frantic Woman’s Guide to Feeding Family and Friends by Mary Jo Rulnick
- The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood by the Sears Parenting Library
- At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks
- I’m Not Julia Roberts by Laura Ruby
- The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
- You’re Not the Boss of Me by Erika Schickel
- Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
And here’s a quick wrap-up/review:
- The book I learned the most from: The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood
- The book that caught me by surprise: You’re Not the Boss of Me
- My overall favorites: Piece of Work and The Undomestic Goddess

Book the First Appointment of the Day (Tip of the Week)
March 20, 2007
I recently took my kids to the portrait studio to have their pictures taken. I called in advance for an appointment and selected the third morning appointment slot (10 a.m.), so that we wouldn’t be rushed getting ready.
What was I thinking? I’ve been a mom for almost seven years now and I should know to always book the first appointment of the day. When you are first, odds are they won’t be running late yet!
We arrived for our appointment (all dressed up and pretty) promptly at 9:50 a.m. and they were ready for us not-so-promptly at 11:10 a.m! The two appointments prior to ours ran long and we really paid a high price for not rushing to get ready!
From now on, it’s the first appointment for me! If for some reason you have not learned this lesson yet, I’m writing this Tip of the Week just for you!!
The good news, my children took some amazing pictures and the studio gave me several free portrait sheets to make-up for my extra-long wait.
