And The Golden Globe Goes To… (New Poll)
January 9, 2007
I thought it would be fun if we did some of our own award show voting as we prepare for the upcoming Golden Globes, Screen Actor’s Guild and Academy Awards.
For our latest poll, we are looking at the Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. Who would you give the Golden Globe to?
- Borat
- The Devil Wears Prada
- Dreamgirls
- Little Miss Sunshine
- Thank You For Smoking
(These are the actual Golden Globe nominations for this category.)
I didn’t see Borat and really wasn’t planning to… If you saw it and have a great review, let us know and maybe you’ll change my mind. I loved The Devil Wears Prada, but it doesn’t seem award worthy to me. Little Miss Sunshine was great and definetly award worthy, but I think Dreamgirls deserves it more. And, I can say this, since I saw them both! Didn’t see Thank You For Smoking, but my sister said it was great. I saw that it’s on Pay Per View, so I may try to catch it this week.
Don’t let my opinions sway you. Please vote in the new SharpMom poll for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and we’ll see how our votes stack up on Monday, January 15th when the Golden Globes air live at 8/7c on NBC!
What Do You Do for New Year’s Eve? (Poll Results)
January 8, 2007
Well, everyone has been busy with the holidays, so we didn’t get a lot of responses to our last poll question: What do you do for New Year’s Eve?
But, from the responses we did get, it’s pretty clear that my SharpMoms are not the party all night types! But really, who can manage that lifestyle plus a house and kids?
Here are the highly scientific results:
- Hang out with family: 67%
- Stay home: 33%
- Party all night with friends!: 0%
- Go on vacation: 0%
I think they speak for themselves! Watch out for our new poll coming later this week!
Handwriting Help (Tip of the Week)
January 8, 2007

My kids have never been the first one in the preschool class to learn to write their name. And, the preschool teachers don’t really help develop this skill because at our school they don’t focus on writing and letters until the 4-year-old class. It’s kind of silly, because a month or two after the 4-year-old class begins in the Fall, half the class will turn 5-years-old. It seems like they should be working on letters in the 3-year-old class when all the kids turn 4!
Oh well, as they say, parents are their children’s best teachers. So, I found some great sites that help out with handwriting skills and they are my Tip of the Week.
Check out these sites to help prepare your child for kindergarten:
- Print Activities: This site has lots of fun printables in addition to handwriting. But, for the handwriting, search under the Tracing section. My favorite part are the Name Tracing Printables: from Aaliyah to Zula. You just search for your child’s name and then print off tracing sheets. Everyone needs to learn how to write their name!
- YoungMinds Penmanship Practice: Another great site. Check out the Printing Readiness Sheets that allow your child to spend time tracing lines, circles and zig zags to prepare for letter writing.
Remember to give lots of praise and encouragement!
