Dream Girls

I’ve seen more movies in the past two weeks than I’ve seen all year! I love seeing movies at the holidays. I think it’s the best time of year with the best selection of great films to see.

Last week, as you’ll recall, I took the kids to see Charlotte’s Web, which we all loved. This week, we saw The Good Shepard, Casino Royale and Dream Girls (all without the kids!).

The Good Shepard is a CIA drama. It was really long, depressing and required a lot of concentration. Not exactly everything I look for in a movie. I like Matt Damon and he did a great job. But overall, this was my least favorite of the three. I had really high hopes for an action-packed suspence drama, but it moved at a snail’s pace!

Good thing I then saw Casino Royale, because it was completely action-packed, filled with suspence and drama and keep me on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t sure about Daniel Craig as James Bond, but it really worked. He’s not as traditionally handsome as say Pierce Brosnan, but he definetly had that Bond charisma and confidence. The movie seemed to have less “gadgets” than the typical Bond film, but there were plenty of chases and plot twists that we’ve come to expect from Bond! Read more

Charlotte’s Web (SharpMom Movie Review)

December 28, 2006

Charlotte's Web

To celebrate school being out for the holidays, my sister, sister-in-law and I took all the kids to see Charlotte’s Web last Friday. What a great family film! Everyone loved it and we had boys and girls ranging in age from 3 to 11-years-old with us (plus 3 moms that loved it too). Julia Roberts was the perfect Charlotte and of course the adorable Dakota Fanning was awesome.

We had two concerns prior to seeing the film. We were worried the 3-year-olds would lose interest since it wasn’t animated, but they didn’t. The animals were so cute and funny and the film moved along so well that they never had a chance to get bored. And, we were afraid the kids would get sad and/or cry when Charlotte died. But, that wasn’t an issue either. I guess we just don’t have very sensitive children! Well, actually, you barely had time to mourn Charlotte because you were too busy rejoicing in her new babies!

I won’t go into a full recap of the story, because I think we all know it. If you have time over the holidays, you should check it out. I enjoyed it more than most of the kid flicks I’ve seen lately! And, what did Rotten Tomatoes have to say about it, 7.2/10. I think that’s about a point too low, but not bad!
