Beachside Book Review #6

August 22, 2006

book coverAs promised, I completed Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, by Sophie Kinsella, and I have a review for you.

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan is the second book in Kinsella’s “Shopaholic” series. Earlier this month I “discovered” Kinsella and gave my review of her first book in the series, Confessions of a Shopaholic. Both books are wonderful. Fun, entertaining and easy summer reads. And, if I can’t be out shopping, there’s nothing better than living vicariously through Becky Bloomwood. This girl knows how to shop!

I think I enjoyed Shopaholic Takes Manhattan even more than the first book. By book two, I felt like I was really into the story and really knew Becky. Plus, this one takes place mostly in Manhattan and it was much more interesting for me to hear about Becky’s shopping extravaganzas in stores that I’m familiar with.

Becky is just hilarious! At the start of this book, she really has her life together again. Good relationship, all debts paid in full and exciting job, but it’s not quite that easy for Becky. When her spending habits get international exposure, yes I said international, her whole world threatens to crumble. You’ll have to read the book to see how it all turns out!

Let me know what other Kinsella books you’ve read!

What’s Most Important for a SharpMom? (Poll Results)

August 21, 2006

Wanted to share the weekly poll results with you:

What’s Most Important for a SharpMom?

Well, 61% of you say the Internet! Wow, how times have changed. The only thing that even came close to the Internet was the cell phone with 25% of the votes. Daytimer, mini van and Starbucks each captured only a couple percent.

My vote was Internet as well. I’m on the Internet several times each day–keeping up with SharpMom.com, checking soccer game schedules, emailing my friends and much more.

Thanks for giving us your opinions! Watch out for the new weekly poll coming soon.

Struggling With Your Kid’s Homework? (Tip of the Week)

August 21, 2006

Do you find that you need some help answering 6th grade math problems? Feel bad when your kids miss the homework questions you helped them with? Well, I might have the Answer for you. Check out Answers.com, “the world’s greatest encyclo-diction-almanac-apedia.”

A tip was sent to SharpMom.com about this site and I checked it out and thought it was pretty cool, so I’m passing it on. I have a 3-year-old son, so I get a lot of questions about dinosaurs. I just typed “dinosaur” into the “tell me about” box and it pulled up a wealth of information with literally hundreds of links to even more information. A whole lot more than me and my son really needed!

Test it out and let us know if you get the answers you are looking for!
