Trade in Your Old Pants for a New Pair (Tip of the Week)
July 24, 2006
Banana Republic (one of my favorite stores!) has a cool promotion running until July 26th. If you donate an old (but still in good condition) pair of pants at your local Banana Republic store, they will give you 15% off the purchase of a new pair of pants. Your donated pants will be sent to Goodwill.
Banana Republic is a good place to pick up some of the fashion basics we talked about in the Wardrobe Rx (The Basics, Part I) post earlier this month. Happy shopping!

My favorite one this week is the REAL Age calculator. I love that we can shave off a couple of years by making some lifestyle changes. And, many of those changes are really pretty simple! And, the calculator outlines it all for you in a really easy-to-follow format. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t already.

A Long Walk. . .That Led to Running
July 21, 2006
My husband has always been a runner. Lots of my girlfriends enjoy running. I, on the other hand, have hated running since field days in elementary school!
I’m definitely not an athlete, but it has always been important to me to take care of myself and get in some regular exercise. Over the years, I’ve walked miles and have never really gained weight, but also never felt like I was where I wanted to be.
My husband, and those girlfriends of mine, kept telling me to give running a try. So, about a year ago, I finally did.
It was terribly depressing at first. I seriously could not run around the block! I’m really not kidding! I started on the treadmill at my gym and took the run/walk approach for several months. In the beginning, two minutes of running was often followed by 10 minute of recovery walking! I found it really frustrating, but I did, almost immediately start to see some real definition in my legs. Something I never got from walking. I also kicked up the pace in some other areas and starting taking some cardio classes that my gym offers. I’m sure this helped as well.
After a while, I was up to a 5 minute run (wow!) but then, almost overnight went to 15 and then 20 minutes. Now, I’m working towards 30 minutes and am sort of enjoying it. I especially enjoy it as soon as it’s over!
I’m a busy mom, and I love that I can get a harder workout done in less time. If you are like me and say you are not a runner, you should give it a try. I promise you anyone can do it if I can! All you need is some patience, lots of determination and a good pair of running shoes!
