Will You be the Teacher this Summer?
June 13, 2006
Are you planning on taking over the role as your child’s teacher this summer? Well, maybe not entirely, but a SharpMom likes SharpKids and I’m sure you’ll want to spend some time reviewing the basics this summer and having some fun too.
My child’s teacher shared some great sites with me that I wanted to pass along. As always, please check out these sites for yourself and monitor your child while using them. There are pop-up advertisements and other things to be aware of.

Tip of the Week: Free Magazine
June 12, 2006
Here’s a really great tip for you. Kraft Foods publishes a quarterly magazine (plus a special holiday edition) called Kraft food & family. You can sign up to receive the magazine for free on the Kraft Foods web site.
The magazine is excellent. It’s filled with tons of recipes, quick and easy steps and lots of pictures (so you know what everything is supposed to look like!). I just received my Summer edition today and it features over 50 recipes for grilling. The magazine also includes health tips and entertaining ideas. I’m going to try the Simply Sensational Strawberry Shortcake. It looks delicious in the picture–I hope I can do it justice. Keep you fingers crossed for me!

Babies Veggin’ Out?
June 10, 2006
DirecTV recently announced a new channel, BabyFirstTV, which will be targeting the youngest viewers, babies aged 0-3. This is the first network to offer exclusive, round-the-clock baby-oriented content. And, as you might have guessed, the critics are having a field day with this one.
I see it as Baby Einstein 24/7. But, seriously, we do need to be careful here. Everything in moderation. I’m okay with a couple of 30 minute blocks of TV time so I can take a shower or make dinner, but we won’t be creating sharp minds if we use our TVs as babysitters.
I have a lot more to say on this, but I gotta run, the Elmo video just ended!!
