Why Moms Need Friends

June 24, 2006

FriendsI loved this article I read in the June issue of Parents called “Why Moms Need Friends.” It states that “. . . moms make friends not just because it’s convenient, but because it’s utterly essential to our health and happiness.” Wow! Now there’s a reason to justify girls night out!

Here’s a recap of the five reasons why we need friends:

  • They Help You De-Stress
  • They’re Not Your Mother
  • They’re Always Brutally Honest
  • They Get It Like Your Husband Can’t
  • They’ve Been There, Done That

As a mom with young children, one of the things I’ve learned is that yes, of course, moms needs friends, but moms especially need friends with children the same age as their own children. As a mom, you go through so much with young children and you need that reassurance from friends that it’s all okay! Nobody understands what you are going through like a buddy that’s right there with you.

The article talks about how sometimes your own mom doesn’t know the answer because things were different in her day. Let’s face it SharpMoms, we wouldn’t know what to do with a diaper pin!

The Best Color Swimsuit for You

June 22, 2006

A couple of weeks ago, I passed along some information on how to find the best swimsuit for your body type. As a follow-up, today, I saw this great article on how to select the best color swimsuit for your skin tone.

I keep saying I won’t buy another black swimsuit, but maybe I was onto something. According to the chart in the article, black is a “do” color for me.  Check it out and go do some shopping!

Beachside Book Review #2

June 21, 2006

Are you Afraid of the DarkJust finished my second easy summer read, Are you Afraid of the Dark?, by another one of my very favorite authors, Sidney Sheldon.

If you are a Sidney Sheldon fan and you’ve read most of his books, this is an easy read and it’s entertaining (I read it in one day). But, if you have never read Sheldon before, please don’t make this your first. It does not do him justice as an author. He has some truly amazing work out there, i.e. Master of the Game, Windmills of the Gods, etc., and Are you Afraid of the Dark?, was not one of them.

Sorry Sidney. I love ya, but you made me wait a long time for a new release and I expected more!
